#25 Time is the Key!
Do you let people waste your time? Do you feel that people should always be available for you? Then this blog is for you!
Do you think you respect your own time? Or do you feel that time is just flying like air and often remains out of our hands? Maybe we think more than we act or we wait for the right time to act. But if we do, then you part yourself from the people who don't respect your time and assume your availability as per their convenience. Mind you this can be a game-changer for you.
I want to draw a new perspective today about time through the recent experiences I have had with people around me. People are just too oblivious to the fact that someone’s time is precious as well and they should give due importance to that.
Let me narrate to you an incident on this- I was approached by a student coordinator of a well-reputed college for conducting a session. The details were sought and things went put in a line about the date, time, agenda, and registrations. I was prepared with the content and the waiting time went smooth as usual. But just one hour before the scheduled session, the team backed out saying the organizing team got some emergency and cant go ahead with the schedule. I felt odd but still on some mutual understanding basis, I agreed to a reschedule and guess what- that coordinator didn’t come back at all.
And this is not one of the incidents, a few more have happened where the person diligently approaches you but just goes invisible at the last moment. Then there are a few unknown people, who text you at their convenient time, seek what they want, and buzz off.
See, there is nothing wrong with being direct, upfront, and clear about your purpose. Everyone should be, but there is a way to communicate and be grateful for someone’s time that they spend on you. In the end, that’s how you network better and if you make the other person’s time respectful enough like yours, you will create a good bond with them.
But the individuals who feel that they can take others for granted or can be available whenever they want need to understand that you are creating a bad image in the outside world. Over time you won’t be taken seriously and you should consciously make an effort to amend this kind of behavior. Such actions don’t take you far off in life or your journey. One thing that I have learned so far is that time management is a skill, and those who garner that won’t be tolerating such a careless attitude. And what follows next is either you start getting ignored or people don’t want to spend their time with you no matter you have something substantial to offer because your first impression has made you miss the opportunity already.
It’s high time we all endeavor to redirect our approach towards the time and energy we spend on others and also rework the course of actions that we take :)
With this thought, we wish you a Happy Weekend!
