1983 World Cup is an emotion: Know Why?
No matter how much we love Sachin Tendulkar, M S Dhoni or Virat Kohli, the history created by the Indian cricket team in 1983 is iconic to win the cup and also our respect & dignity in the world.
If your family is a cricket buff, then you would have heard stories of World Cup 1983 from your parents or grandparents. And we are spontaneous enough to quote our current cricket heroes like Dhoni, Kohli, Tendulkar, and others. But the feeling just got real and the win became much more special after watching ‘83’, a recent release starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and other casts who beautifully put out the special story on big screens. I hopped at the theatre after two years and this movie was indeed a delight to watch and these are some special mind prints I got back with:
First and foremost is for the Movie:
The portrayal is just on point and around the major event with no fiction here and there. Three highlights for me that were amazing to witness:
a. Cricket as a game has evolved so much from no safety accessories to full package today for the players
b. Sports is one thing that unites people under one roof despite the religion, caste, and other discriminatory bias
c. Actors like Boman Irani, Pankaj Tripathi often don’t get on the movie posters but the role they play with a limited on-screen time adds their magic to the story. They make us believe that it’s not the time but your work speaks for your caliber and just makes their presence felt in no time.
Positivity and confidence always pave the way to your success
Kapil Dev’s eternal motivation of ‘Jeet ke Aana’; her mother’s word not only inspired him but also his team. The courage of being confident and uttering the words like ‘ we are here to win’ at the press conference after three consecutive defeats in the test series made him the laughing stock for that moment. But he never let that negativity and news reach his head. Not to forget his poor English was never a deterrent to be silent or to be on a back foot.
The golden rule of ‘Work is worship’
All the talking done during the tournament was not with his words but with the play/ actions on the ground with his game. Focus and give 100% to your work always turn the tables in your favor and put you on the path of success. No matter what’s happening around you or in your external environment, if you are at work or in a position of responsibility, you gotta be dedicated and perform the best, nothing else should linger in your head.
There is a first time for everything
I have never done this before is one of our favorite rescues to delay or let go of the opportunity that knocks on our door. You haven’t done that before does not mean that you can’t do it All you need to do to run the engine is gather requisite resources and follow the process. Go with the flow is not just a line, it is a life mantra. Sometimes, we all need to take that leap of faith
What others say doesn’t matter but what matters is how you respond to it
The final match wasn’t a good start for team India and while the audience started teasing the wives of the players, they lost hope and started to leave the stadium with tears in their eyes. But the team came out stronger and it was too late for them to live the moment or witness the reactions as the skies favored team India, by being present in the stadium. Just like that dance, sometimes situations make us lose our hope and the best advice someone can give in that moment is to stay and be strong because the end gonna be well.
Passion is the key
There are times when you have walked a considerable journey towards your goal and that makes you feel scared and think about the outcome of every next step you take. Just like Kapil’s condition right before the Finals, and how she wive reminded him that the kid in him loves playing cricket and that’s why he is there today. When in doubt and you feel confused along your journey, we should go back to our roots and relive the reason why we started this journey in the first place. Re-align with the objective and that one thought that made you embark on the path, all the clouds of confusion and self-doubt will automatically get clear in your heads.
A true leader is always at the team’s side
A good leader will always take the blame for failures on his head but give the credit to success to the team. He always brings the best out of his teammates and makes them marry their unleashed potential. He can be misunderstood or disobeyed but that individual always plays from the team’s side and never from the opponent’s.
And as we are in the last week of this year 2021, this would be our last blog post and we would be super excited to see you all in the new year 2022.
Happy New Year to all the readers :)
